So who is Jason Madison?

I am a 22(23 on the 26th) year old Director, Producer, and Music Producer. From LA(Compton, Leimert, Crenshaw/Slauson). Former film student and really a child of my environment. I honestly feel like outside of Hype, i’m the best working in the hip-hop genre right now. I bring alot of soul and realness to my work that I don’t see in alot of other videos that just look like carbon copies of other people’s shit. I pride myself on originality and creativity. I like being low key right now, nobody really knows me but they know my work… all of that is about to change tho.

What’s this project about? What does it include?

The project is about the people I know and am close to in the LA rap scene combined with my vision of how I wanted the new hip-hop film to look and feel like. It includes behind the scenes of the Mayor video that I shot with Coodie & Chike, how Pac Div came up with that song. Being that its like the signifying mark in our “movement” right now. A behind the scenes look into Nipsey Hussle, how he works, whats on his mind, and just some real insight on how it feels to be on the brink being that he’s the marquee artist of the movement. And the last part is the Showtime video I did for my cousin DOM KENNEDY which is a song I produced and co-wrote. I think that was a seminole point to capture in all of our lives becasue that song really means alot to me and once people see the visual and connect it with the lyrics it’ll resonate and he’s kinda the darkhorse but really the one everyone should be looking out for.

You’ll be able to check it out if you’re in the LA area. Come summer i’m gonna try to make it a point to have a screening at least once a week. And it might not just be my movie, prolly other shit too. I wanna get people back interested in the whole film process and let this be a small window for cats to just hang out and have fun with it.

What do you think of west coast hip hop right now?

I think it’s incredible whats going on out here. To feel like I’m a large part of something that people are getting behind is a good feeling. We’ve all been working very hard to get people’s attention without stepping outside of who we are but somebody’s gonna have to make a leap soon. A big one, idk what its gonna take but people are noticing, just not on the level they should. There’s alotta hungry and talented cats out here. It’s low key like a little renaissance going on. And once the rest of the world finally wakes up, it’s gon be trouble.
